Now that you’ve been through the main parts of this incredibly special home designed and built by Emily’s design architects, Anne and Richard De Wolf of ARCIFORM, (the kitchen/dining/living room and the main suite) it’s time to see where the guests sleep! You can see that they are beautiful bunk beds. Guess what? The room you see here is just one of two (plus an additional bed area, and a vintage-inspired bathroom!)
Quilts (vintage), Striped Flannel sheets, Quilted Shams in Warm Brown and White, Faux Leather Lumbar Pillows or Ball Pillows (similar).| Striped Flannel Sheets | Quilted Shams (in Warm Brown and White) | Faux Leather Lumbar Pillow | Ball Pillow (similar)
It’s true, I would also love to be in this bunkroom on the Washington Coast, surrounded by this incredible home, even in 90-degree heat. The contrast between the dark walls and the warm medium wood, as well as texture (the smooth sheen painted on the walls as well as the textured ceilings and frames) create an unbelievably great tension. It just gives it so much depth and interest don’t you think??
Emily Henderson, Emily Bowser and their team did a great job of styling the room. The vintage quilts were beautifully made and look great. When paired with lighter-toned, striped sheets it adds a pattern without clashing with the quilt pattern. They chose quilted pillow shams that mimic the quilts but do not copy them. Then for the throw pillows you simply can’t lose with that Target faux leather lumbar! It gives the room just the right amount warmth and depth. But we’re nothing if not whimsical so a ball pillow is a must.
Last thing. Have you noticed that they have a neutral sham at the bottom and a mustard colored one on top? It’s fun, gives each bed its own identity (a must! ha), and there’s no need for any throw pillows on the top bunk since that’s where the deeper color is. It’s decor math.
As you may have read last week, stained glass was used on the windows and doors of this house. If this home doesn’t make you RUN to your nearest architectural salvage yard or quickly hop on Craigslist or Etsy to grab some vintage stained glass pieces for your home I’m not sure what will. They bring such sweetness and soul. Whatever the reason, they make a house feel so special. They are also just cool.
Of course, this home was custom built so it’s likely a little easier to add them in when you are starting from scratch or remodeling. But anything is possible if you want it enough (or have enough funds if we’re being honest).
Table Lamp (vintage).
See the adorable vintage lamp on the side table. How do those simple pillows complete the look?
Art (vintage) | Pendant (vintage) | Sheepskin Pelt (similar)
This is the last angle we will take before moving onto the next room! This room is very simple, but sweet. With architectural interest like this, you don’t need much. But a plant is almost always a necessity in any room and this hanging guy adds that final touch to make the space come alive (that vintage pendant isn’t doing a bad job at that either:))
And because the walls are a statement in and of themselves, they didn’t need to add much art! Just enough art to add a little color and movement. For maximum comfort, a sheepskin coat is also a good choice.
Rug
Is it possible to have too many bunk beds in a vacation property? Maximize your beds! If I can avoid using an air mattress, I will be grateful. They hurt my back. Back to bunk room number 2. I love that they didn’t do the same colors on the walls but still did a deeper tone than the ceiling! If you want your wood to look like it is wood, but also want contrast, this is the perfect idea.
Throw Blankets| Lumbar Pillows (similar) | Throw Blankets (similar)
The bunk frame arch was also similar but not the same. I love it when each room in a home has its own style, but they all seem to belong together.
Anne also chose another wonderful stained glass pair and since there aren’t any side tables they included industrial hardwired sconces. Emilys also styled their bedding in a similar, but different way. The same base (Green Comforter/Sham) is used on both, but the throws and lumbar pillow are different. This is a little easier to use if you are looking for a formula that will not fail. It’s all the same except the add-ons which you can just choose slightly different versions of!
Now this little “room” made my heart jump out of my chest. The bedding is almost identical (ok, this one’s cuter) to the bed I had in the loft of the holiday/company home that my family owned. It had my great-grandmother’s handmade quilt that looked almost exactly like that with handmade pillows my mom and I sewed together with vintage fabric we picked out. I was so impressed by my mom’s talent as a seamstress. I tried, but I lost interest. If I didn’t want to not ruin this beautiful post I would show you a picture.
Back to this corner. Those likely vintage brass light fixtures are SO perfect I almost can’t stand it. It’s great that they went with two different styles of the same finish. This is a great way to give a room a more eclectic feel while still keeping it cohesive. Take a closer look at the extra-large dried flowers. They look cool because of their size. This space is really being sold by that adorable pup.
Tile (same)
This bathroom is the final touch to the loft. If you’ve been contemplating a bold patterned floor-to-wall tile, take this as your sign to do it! It looks amazing. Who wouldn’t want to shower in here?? What about brushing your teeth at the coolest vintage green vanity? If you read my bathroom post last week you know I’m potentially looking for new vintage vanity legs…and these are very inspiring. Let’s use more vintage vanities in bathrooms (at least in guest or power bathrooms which don’t always need as much storage). Oh, and check out that adorable trash bin!
Check out the vintage details on the shower base. This base and the vanity softens the geometrical lines in an interesting way. Did you also notice that the tile on one of shower walls is different? Why not? It looks great and simply added another visual texture but in a light neutral so it’s not overpowering. Plus it’s the same tile that’s in the main suite. Big fan over here if you can’t tell.
Do you already have a favorite design or space? You’ll see one more special room later in the week. We know you will love it. It’s been so fun getting to show off Anne and Richard’s work! Until next time…
Love you.
